2008

January 27th to 31st. : 42nd MIDEM in Cannes, France

BIGNON LEBRAY was present at the 42nd edition of Midem (the world’s music market) held on the 27th-31st January 2008 in Cannes and was inspired by an ever evolving music market, new project research, and the arrival of a new participant; China. Within this event, Anne-Marie Pecoraro was able to participate in two conferences.

  • User Generated Content: New Business Models and Legal Issues
User-generated content is the most-discussed but least-understood force to hit us since P2P. When is content user-generated and who actually owns it? How is it changing the industry and do we need to re-evaluate existing licensing and legal frameworks to take account of it? In this session the IAEL has lined up legal and business experts from across the media and both sides of the Atlantic to make sense of user-generated content. From new legislation to new business models, from its democratising power to the methods to properly monetise it, this seminar plots out how law and business should react to 'UGC'.

  • Midem Indie Summit/IAEL Legal Workshop (www.iael.org)
This IAEL workshop, led by specialist lawyers Anne-Marie Pecoraro from BIGNON LEBRAY & ASSOCIES in Paris and Steve Masur from MASUR LAW in New York is your chance to ask a lawyer the particulars about the new deals many labels are now signing with artists, including the new '360°' contracts, exemplified by Madonna's deal with Live Nation. We will discuss all of the different areas such an agreement might encompass, including traditional and digital recording deals, licensing, advertising, mobile and internet distribution, streaming, merchandizing, touring and even artist appearances and actors contracts. The session will be fully interactive, so bring questions and share your views with industry experts.

12th Novembre 2007 : 2007 and 2008 MIDEM

In the prospect of the MIDEM 2008, which will take place in a few weeks, we are pleased to remind you of  the elements evoked in diverse interesting and passionate debates of the workshop that we presented last year, in January 2007, with our colleague from New York, Jeff Liebenson (HERRICK & FEINSTEIN law firm).

See the 2007 workshop.

This year, our friend Jeff Liebenson will publish the MIDEM book dedicated to the web2.0., a work in which we participated through a contribution to the drafting of two articles.

The MIDEM 2008 will also be widely opened to Asia and the Chinese market. As you know, our firm has an office in Shanghai, and had therefore the opportunity to present several elements of Chinese Law during the numerous conferences in which it participated this year.

We are presently preparing our participation in the next INTA that will take place in Berlin in May, our travel in Cannes during the Festival, etc…

Most of all, we are pleased to present you our next Midem workshops, scheduled in Cannes :

1 - “User Generated Content: New Business Models and Legal Issues': presentation of this year’s IAEL book (www.iael.org). MidemNet conference in Cannes, on January 28, 2008, from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm (lecture, roundtable discussion with various participants, interview - with Bignon Lebray.)

2 - Midem Indie Summit/IAEL Legal Workshop. Verriere Californie, Midem Indie Summit in Cannes, on Tuesday 29th January running from 5pm to 6pm. This IAEL workshop, led by specialist lawyers Anne-Marie Pecoraro from Paris and Steve Masur from New York, provides an interactive legal session within the Midem Indie Summit.
From signing a 360° contract with your artist - to working out how to handle the rights for mobile and other new usages of your repertoire - this session will look at the wide range of legal issues facing independent labels today. The interactive format allows you to ask questions and share your views with industry experts.
