Football – New FIFA rules on player loans
A new regulation of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) will come into force on 1 July, subject to approval by the FIFA Council.
This regulation provides for the establishment of several limits on the accumulation of player loans between clubs, including:
– A maximum loan period of one year;
– A ban on sub-lending a player;
– A limit on the number of loans between two clubs each season: a club may not take in more than three players on loan from the same club;
– A limit on the total number of loans that a club may take out each season, with a three-year transition period: the limit will be eight players for the 2022-2023 season, seven for 2023-2024 and six from 2024-2025 onwards.
However, these limitations shall not apply to players aged 21 or under or to players trained at the club.
