Ligue 1 rights: the law of 3 August 2026 paves the way for a single-lot tender

Can the LFP now sell broadcasting rights to Ligue 1 to a single buyer?

Since 5 August 2026 Article L. 333-2 of the Sports Code, as amended by Article 18 of Law No. 2026-725, provides that audiovisual rights are marketed "in one or more lots, at the choice of the selling entity". This marketing remains subject to a limited duration and compliance with competition rules.

The LFP intends to make use of this option. According to a source close to the body, the Managing Director of LFP Media has proposed to the Board of Directors that a call for tenders be launched in November. Bidders would choose between two options: exclusive rights to all matches, or exclusive distribution of Ligue 1+. The launch remains subject to the Board of Directors' approval.
